When I was a young person growing up in New York City I had a completely different view of nature than a person who grows up in the country has. From the subways that transported me around my town to my conversations with my dad who was a museum loving NYC cab driver, I was urban to the bone!!!!!! However, I knew because I had studied art for so many years that traditionally artists from all over the world were strongly influenced by nature when they created their works. Eventually, I thought that perhaps I could try to create some works with this in mind and learn what the fuss was all about. I was glad that I did.

As a glass artist I always work with nature’s bounty. After all, the beautiful glass art that we are used to seeing starts out as simple grains of sand. Inevitably, I tried to become more aware of other ways that nature might inspire me as an artist. I began to notice familiar edible items such as greens, berries, and honey that all came from nature. I began to notice that even simple everyday rocks had a breathtaking beauty to them. My awareness had been heightened.
