On the surface, sand and sea seem to be the ultimate contradiction. There is no doubt that they are both fascinating. Oddly enough, from a visual standpoint they actually have a lot in common. The flowing shape of waves resembles the flowing shape of sand in the desert. The most amazing part of the story is that there are places on Earth that now have desert terrains but they used to be under water like the Sahara Desert. The planet Earth is forever changing.

Like most artists, I draw on my own life experiences. I have so many happy memories from my childhood spent at Coney Island. As a grown up I visited so many deserts and so many beaches. They can be breathtaking to look at and experience. Of course, as a glass artist, I always remember that my media of choice originates with sand. When the glass is put together in a kiln it flows like water.
